Questions
Frequently asked questions
Is an e-PAN valid, or do I need a printed card?
An e-PAN is a valid form of PAN and works for KYC and investing. If you also want a printed card, you can choose one when applying online, or order a reprint later.
Why does Instant e-PAN ask for DigiLocker?
Aadhaar isn't accepted as proof of date of birth, so the e-Filing portal fetches a date-of-birth document, such as a driving licence, birth certificate or Class X marksheet, from your DigiLocker. You can create a DigiLocker account during the process using your Aadhaar-linked mobile.
My Aadhaar is already linked to a PAN. Can I get Instant e-PAN?
No. Instant e-PAN is only for people who don't already have a PAN. Use your existing PAN, and request a correction if any details are wrong.
Can I change my application after submitting it?
No. An application can't be edited after final submission. Once your PAN is allotted, submit a correction request (Form CR-01).
Can NRIs apply online?
Yes. Indian citizens living abroad apply with Form 93 and must give their passport number. A printed card sent to a foreign address costs ₹1,011.
How do I check my application status?
Use your acknowledgement number on the Protean or UTIITSL tracking page, depending on where you applied. For Instant e-PAN, use “Check Status / Download e-PAN” on the e-Filing portal.
