Sahare Wealth · Aadhaar help for investors
Keep your Aadhaar investment-ready
Your Aadhaar powers online KYC, links to your PAN and serves as address proof for your investment accounts. Check these five things on the official UIDAI and Income Tax websites before you invest.
Why it matters
Why Aadhaar matters for investing
Most KYC and account problems we see trace back to one of these five points. Each one takes a few minutes to check on the official websites.
-
Get “Validated” KYC
KYC completed using Aadhaar is marked “Validated” by KYC Registration Agencies (KRAs), so you can invest with any fund house.
With “Registered” status, you can keep investing only with fund houses you already use. A new fund house needs your KYC to be Validated first.
-
Link your mobile number
Online KYC with Aadhaar sends a one-time password (OTP) to the mobile number linked with your Aadhaar. Check which number is linked before you start.
Use “Verify Email/Mobile Number” on myAadhaar. If your number isn't linked, update it at an Aadhaar enrolment centre.
-
Link PAN with Aadhaar
PAN–Aadhaar linking is needed for “Validated” KYC. If your PAN becomes inoperative because it isn't linked, TDS is deducted at a higher rate and tax refunds are not issued.
Non-residents, people aged 80 or above, non-citizens and residents of Assam, Jammu & Kashmir and Meghalaya are exempt.
Late linking fee: ₹1,000 -
Match your name and date of birth
Your name and date of birth should be the same on your PAN, your Aadhaar and your KYC record.
A mismatch can stop KYC or account registration. For example, an MF Utility eCAN fails if your date of birth doesn't exactly match your KYC record.
-
Keep address proof ready
Download your e-Aadhaar free to use as address proof. When you give someone a copy, share a masked Aadhaar, which shows only the last 4 digits.
A 16-digit Virtual ID (VID) can be used in place of your Aadhaar number for authentication.
