Your Home Is Your Biggest Asset. Protect It.
Fire, floods, earthquakes and burglary can undo years of savings in a single day. Home insurance rebuilds your house and replaces your belongings, for a surprisingly small yearly premium.
Did you know?
- A home loan policy often covers only the loan amount, not your belongings
- Housing society policies usually cover only the common structure
- Tenants can insure their own contents even without owning the house

Choose What You Want to Protect
Building / Structure Cover
Covers the cost of repairing or rebuilding the house itself: walls, roof, floors, permanent fittings. The sum insured is based on reconstruction cost, not market value, because land is never destroyed.
Home Contents Cover
Covers furniture, appliances, electronics, clothes and other belongings. Jewellery, art and other valuables usually need to be declared separately.
Comprehensive Home Package
Building and contents together in one policy, often with burglary, valuables and liability benefits. The simplest option for owner-occupied homes.
Bharat Griha Raksha
A standard home policy offered by general insurers with uniform cover terms for building and basic contents, with options to add more. We compare it with insurer-specific packages.
Extend Your Cover
Jewellery & Valuables
Covers gold, silver, watches and art declared in the policy, sometimes even outside the home.
Electronics Breakdown
Covers mechanical or electrical breakdown of TVs, ACs, laptops and appliances.
Portable Equipment
Covers phones, cameras and laptops against loss or damage anywhere in India.
Terrorism Cover
Extends protection to damage caused by acts of terrorism.
Loss of Rent
For landlords: compensates rent lost while the property is uninhabitable after an insured event.
Pet Cover
Covers accidental injury or death of pets, available with select insurers.
How Much Should You Insure Your Home For?
Insure the building for what it would cost to rebuild today, and your belongings for what it would cost to replace them.
Indicative estimate. Construction costs vary by city and specification. Land value is never included because land is not destroyed. Under-insuring can reduce your claim proportionately.
8 Things to Check Before You Buy
- Insure the rebuild costBase the building sum insured on reconstruction cost, not the market price of the flat.
- Avoid under-insuranceIf the sum insured is too low, the insurer may pay only a proportion of the claim.
- List your valuablesDeclare jewellery, art and expensive gadgets separately, with bills or valuation reports.
- Check the home-loan policyA lender's policy may cover only the loan outstanding; top up for full value and contents.
- Know the society policySociety policies rarely cover the interiors and belongings of individual flats.
- Read the exclusionsWear and tear, gradual deterioration and unoccupied periods beyond a limit are common exclusions.
- Long-term optionMulti-year policies can lock in the premium and save renewal hassle.
- Keep recordsStore photos, bills and a list of contents in the cloud; they make claims much faster.
How a Home Insurance Claim Works
Inform Immediately
Notify the insurer (or us) as soon as possible. For burglary or riots, file a police FIR too.
Document the Damage
Take photos and videos. Don't throw away damaged items until the surveyor has seen them.
Survey
A surveyor appointed by the insurer inspects the loss. We help you prepare bills and estimates.
Settlement
The insurer settles the assessed loss as per policy terms, after any deductible.

Home Insurance Questions, Answered
Should I insure my flat at its market value?
No. Market value includes land and location, which cannot be destroyed. Insure the building for its reconstruction cost and the contents for their replacement value.
I am a tenant. Can I buy home insurance?
Yes. Tenants can buy a contents-only policy to protect their furniture, appliances, electronics and valuables. The building itself is the owner's responsibility.
Does my home loan insurance cover my home?
It depends on the policy. Some lenders insure only the structure for the loan amount, and some offer only a life cover for the borrower. Check what you have; we can review it and suggest a top-up.
Is jewellery covered?
Usually only if declared and covered under a valuables section or add-on, often with a limit per item. Keep bills or valuation certificates ready.
What is not covered?
Common exclusions include normal wear and tear, gradual damage such as seepage over time, damage while the house is left unoccupied beyond the permitted period, war and nuclear risks, and loss not reported promptly. Each policy lists its exclusions.
How much does home insurance cost?
Home insurance is one of the most affordable covers, usually a small fraction of the sum insured each year. The final premium depends on the sum insured, construction type, location and add-ons. Ask us for a quote.
