Investment choice
How your money is invested
Your contributions are invested by a pension fund you choose, in four asset classes.
E
Equity
Shares of companies. Up to 75% in Active Choice. Higher growth potential, with more ups and downs.
C
Corporate bonds
Bonds issued by companies. Steadier than equity, with some credit risk.
G
Government securities
Bonds issued by the government. Lower credit risk, but prices move with interest rates.
A
Alternate assets
Investments such as REITs, InvITs and AIFs. Limited to 5% in Active Choice.
Active Choice
- You decide how much goes into each asset class
- Suits people who want to manage the mix themselves
Auto Choice
- A life-cycle fund reduces equity as you get older
- Choose aggressive, moderate or conservative versions
You can change your pension fund once a year and your asset mix up to four times a year.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Are NPS returns guaranteed?
No. NPS is market-linked, and returns depend on the pension fund and asset mix you choose. Past returns of each pension fund are published by NPS Trust.
Can NRIs invest in NPS?
Yes. Indian citizens living abroad and OCIs aged 18 to 70 can open a Tier I account. HUFs and PIOs are not eligible.
What tax benefits do I get?
Tier I contributions qualify for deductions under income-tax law, within limits. The benefit depends on your tax regime and on whether your employer contributes. Tier II has no tax benefit.
What happens if I miss a year's contribution?
Your Tier I account may become inactive. You can reactivate it by paying the minimum contribution as per PFRDA rules.
Can I withdraw money before 60?
Yes, in two ways: partial withdrawal for specific needs after 3 years, or early exit, where at least 80% must buy an annuity unless your corpus is ₹5 lakh or less.
Does Sahare Wealth guarantee returns?
No. We help you open and manage your NPS account. Investment choices and returns are yours.
