Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about bond investing in India.
What is an OBPP?
OBPP stands for Online Bond Platform Provider. SEBI introduced this framework in 2022 to regulate digital platforms that let retail investors buy and sell listed bonds. Only SEBI-registered entities may operate an OBPP in India.
Can I buy government bonds directly from the RBI?
Yes. Through the RBI Retail Direct portal (opens in new tab), Indian residents can open a Retail Direct Gilt account and buy government securities, Treasury Bills, and Sovereign Gold Bonds without a broker. Support is available toll-free at 1800-267-7955, 10 AM – 7 PM.
How do I complain if a bond platform doesn't resolve my issue?
First raise a ticket with the platform's grievance officer. If unresolved within 30 days, escalate to SEBI SCORES (opens in new tab). For RBI-regulated entities, use the RBI Complaint Management System.
